I’m really grateful for the time I spent with Madame Simpson prior to coming to migrating. The knowledge that she taught me really made my transition into Canada very smooth. Canada is a bilingual country with both English and French being its official languages. I was very excited to be able to interact with people in both French and English alike. During my last 3 years of high school I did French as a subject and was able to fit into their curriculum with no challenges with my prior knowledge. I even had the exciting opportunity to visit Québec with my family which is known as the central hub for French culture and speakers in Canada. I was able to converse wherever we went and often times served as the translator for my family. Learning French previously at the secondary school level with Madame Simpson greatly helped as I was able to communicate in the shops and restaurants and indulge in Quebecois culture. I was able to see the importance of learning a second language such as French as it is everywhere In Canada not just Quebec.

I had the privilege of studying French as my ninth subject for CSEC under Madame Simpson’s guidance in 2019. Through her, I was able to receive a Grade I with Distinction. Motivated by her teaching, I pursued French further at the CAPE level (Units 1 and 2), and subsequently at the University of the West Indies. In addition to strong academic capabilities, I had the opportunity to travel to France and Switzerland, where I applied my oral French skills to communicate with native French speakers with ease. Madame Simpson not only prepared me for CSEC examinations, but real world applications of the language through her carefully crafted lessons and diligent teaching.

Before relocating to Côte d’Ivoire for work, I knew I wanted to hit the ground running - linguistically. That’s where Mrs Joleen Meharris-Simpson, affectionately known as Madame Joleen, came in. Over the course of just 10 hours spread across a month, she helped me build the practical language foundation I needed, not just to speak French, but to confidently use it in real-world settings. What made her sessions so powerful was the way she approached language learning. It wasn’t just about grammar rules and vocabulary drills. It was about context, culture, and communication. Every class felt tailored to my goals, and she made the learning process incredibly fun, practical, and engaging. In addition to our classroom session, she also shared resources to support my learning outside the classroom. Thanks to Madame Joleen, I was able to hold conversations from the moment I landed in Abidjan. Whether it was navigating day-to-day life, chatting with colleagues, or even making small talk with locals, I felt prepared and empowered. She helped lay the critical foundation I needed to make this transition. If you’re looking for a French tutor who combines linguistic expertise with a warm, supportive, and effective teaching style, I can’t recommend Madame Joleen highly enough. She doesn’t just teach French - she brings it to life.
